This is not just another book. This book is full of Biblical truths that will change the Body of Christ, and help us to function the way Jesus intends for us to function.

In Joseph Prince's new book, Grace Revolution, Joseph shares freedom for the Believer in Christ. The purpose of the book is to demonstrate grace and truth in our relationship to Jesus.

In this book you will find testimonies of people whose lives have been changed because they discovered grace in the scriptures that was there all the time. There is a lot of teaching in the book, as well a breakdown of Hebrew and Greek words

The reader will also discover the difference between law and grace. Jesus is the fulfillment of the law for believers. He fulfilled the law for us with His death.

I could go on and on.

Just a short testimony from me. I started listening to Joseph Prince around late 2007 or early 2008. I was raised in the church, and had gotten saved at an early age. I went out into the world, and didn't come back to Jesus (much like the prodigal son) until Jesus sought me out in my early twenties. Even though I had those experiences, I still didn't feel really secure in my relationship to Him until I started listening to Joseph Prince. After I started listening to him teach, I actually felt like a Christian, a real Christian, like those from the book of Acts. We should all feel that way.

As I continue to listen to the teachings on grace, and read the stories of Jesus in my Bible, and see them for what they really are, my peace increases. Jesus said "you will know the truth and the truth will set you free." (John 8:32) And it is-the truth is continually setting me free, more and more.

It took me a long time to get through this book. It is not a quick read. There are so many truths from God's Word, that you will want to stop occasionally to let it soak in. It will increase your faith, and give you peace. When I was finished, I wanted to go back to the beginning and start again. Once you hear about the goodness of God in Jesus, you want to keep hearing about it again and again.

Grace Revolution would be a great group Bible study tool, for new believers, and those who have been walking with God for a while. I recommend this book to everybody, so you can feel safe and secure in your relationship with Christ.

If it weren't for this preacher from Singapore, I'd still be battling thoughts of suicide and wave after wave of depression...

This one from JP is excellent .... simple but so nuclear. I grew up trying to "please" God all my life because of all the sermons I heard. The problem with living in a world of right and wrong is that it is performance based. Once I realized that Christ fulfilled the law on my behalf, I no longer feel the pressure of morals, ethics, rules, regulations, laws, commandments, etc breathing down my neck all the time telling me how despicable I am (was or will be!). I can just chill out and relax in His grace letting Him do His thing in me. I tell you what... if it were not for this funny talking preacher dude from Singapore, I'd still be battling thoughts of suicide and wave after wave of depression.

Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross revealed.

I am from Singapore and have the privilege of hearing his sermons weekly. I have been blessed beyond measure because of his teachings about Jesus Christ and His grace. This book is unique in my opinion in the way the testimonials were incorporated together with the different truths that pastor was sharing about Jesus Christ and His finished work. I was deeply touched through these personal precious stories that helped encouraged me.There were so many powerful biblical truths that he shared gleaned from different parts of the bible, from the Shunammite woman and Elisha to the doctrinal differences between the Law and Prophets/ Jesus is Grace to the offerings in O.T all pointing to Christ to the rich young ruler etc.

The use of Hebrew and Greek and how the meaning behind the verses can be so poignant with truths helped illustrated the teachings and cleared some common misconceptions like how the Holy Spirit convict believers of sin or confess to be forgiven. The book is so pregnant with powerful truths that one reading will not be enough. Get this book you want to know more about the love of Christ revealed through the bible and the testimonies, to live the abundant life that Christ has called us to. Bless someone else with it, their lives will not be the same by the grace of God because the gospel (good news) is shared!

Very basic

For such a heavily instrumental group, this songbook is unsurprisingly basic. There are a couple of errors and throughout the songs the vocal lines are reflected in the piano parts which I consider a very cheap way of making sheet music. It would be nice if the piano parts were exactly as they were performed on the recordings. However, the notes are essentially accurate for the most part and if you are a big ELO fan and are having trouble figuring out certain chords or lyrics you will find this volume helpful.

Great book with great songs!

The songs in this volume are identical to the songs available on the identically-titled CD. Most of the great ELO songs are in here, and they're well presented with sheet music written out (i.e. not just lyrics with chords above).

Most of the songs sound great on solo guitar with you singing along, though some don't sound right without the big ELO production. I would say the two songs that sound most different are Horace Wimp and Don't Bring Me Down, so if you were looking to duplicate the ELO sound, you won't do it on solo acoustic with this book.

About the Author
Jeffrey A. Kottler, Ph.D., is Professor in the Counseling Department at California State University, Fullerton, and one of the foremost authorities and prolific writers in the fields of counseling, psychology, and education. He is the best-selling author of more than 80 nonfiction books that deal with a wide range of subjects including personal development, group leadership, professional development of psychotherapists and teachers, social justice, true crime, and a variety of contemporary issues related to helping and healing, truth and lies, creativity, transformative travel, and stress management. In addition to his private practice, Jeffrey has worked as a teacher, counselor, and therapist in preschool, middle school, mental health center, crisis center, university, and community college settings. He has served as a Fulbright Scholar and Senior Lecturer in Peru and Iceland, teaching counseling theory and practice. He has also served as a visiting professor in New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Nepal, and other countries. In addition, Jeffrey is President of Empower Nepali Girls, a foundation that provides scholarships for at-risk children in Nepal.

David S. Shepard, Ph.D., has been practicing as a counselor in the Los Angeles area for more than two decades, working with a full range of issues including adjustment problems, relationship issues, struggles with substance abuse, depression, anxiety, and personality disorders. His particular specialty is in gender-sensitive couples therapy--incorporating scholarship on the socialization experiences of both men and women to ensure that both sexes are equally comfortable in and get maximum benefit from couples work. Prior to his counseling career, David worked as a screenwriter in the film and television industry, where he specialized in children's animation. He is also Associate Professor of Counseling at California State University, Fullerton, where he does research in counselor education, the relationship of counseling theory to clinical practice, gender issues in counseling, and the uses of film in teaching counseling.

Superb!

This is one of the best textbooks I've had the pleasure to use, and believe me, I've used a lot. It is clear and well-written, and in reading it you understand not just the information it presents but also why that information is important. Each chapter contains many anonymous comments called "Voices from the Field," written by practicing mental health counselors. These "voices" give a sometimes gritty but always authentic perspective that grounds and comforts the student. Here is one example:

Of all the theories I've used--and believe me, I've used a bunch--REBT is the one I found most useful
in my own life. I don't even practice it that much anymore with my clients, but I still use it every day
inside my own head. So often, I get down on myself because I feel like i'm failing my clients or not
doing as good a job as I should. Then I hear Ellis's voice in my head, confronting me about my
"shoulds" and absolute judgments. It really does work miracles.

Why don't I use it anymore with my clients? I don't know. I guess I just got bored with it after a
while. It's not that it stopped working; really, it's powerful stuff. It's just that I got tired disputing the
same old irrational beliefs over and over. I moved on to something new and more dynamic. But I
still use it sometimes with clients who really seem like good candidates for a more confrontational,
thinking approach.

When I read this account I could almost feel the counselor's weariness and self-doubt. Kottler should be commended for making a strong effort to portray the realities that students will face when they enter the "real world."

This is the second book I have read by Kottler. After a couple of years in a counseling MA program, you start to differentiate between poorly written texts and those that are helpful. Kottler is an engaging writer (no small feat for a textbook) and the "voices from the field" are found throughout the book. For a neophyte counselor, it's reassuring to hear from others in the field whose contributions reflect your own concerns. I took one star away because of the order of chapter topics, which I think could have been organized in a way that flowed better, but I would definitely recommend this book.

Fantastic book for anyone entering the field of counseling.

I was required to purchase the book for graduate school and was disappointed at first when I saw it was a textbook. However, the book is so interesting I just sat down and read it even before I started class. The author provides so much information about counseling and the personal stories from counselors in the field is a fantastic feature. All of the information in the book is exactly what you want to know as a new counselor. This is a textbook that I will definitely keep and recommend to others.

Wonderful patterns, but British terminology

I own Mooncie's previous book, "Crocheted Wild Animals" and have enjoyed making several patterns from that book. Mooncie tends to like big projects, which is a nice change from most Amigurumi books that favor smaller stuffies. I've bought the kindle version of the book since the paperback is not yet available, but will likely buy the paperback when it finally comes out, since it is typically easier for me to read patterns in a book. The patterns in this book are well written and I'm already halfway through my first project. The only reason I did not give five stars to this book is because it uses British terminology for stitches, rather than American terminology. Thus what I would call a single crochet stitch, she calls a double crochet stitch. Her first book had an American version, maybe this one will eventually have one too.

Definitely recommend this book

Great photos, very detailed instructions. Book includes both row-by-row instructions and charted instructions. All instructions and sizing are given in UK terms but conversions (stitches, needle size, etc) are listed at the end of the book.

Yarn is suggested by brand, would have been slightly more useful (at least to me) to list suggested yarn weight instead.

I made the shark and it looks mostly like the photos, wanted him to be a bit comical so I made large eyes and teeth, turned out the predicted size (~22", all these patterns produce sizeable stuffed animals), again very easy to follow patterns. The anglerfish is adorable, will definitely make more of these marine mates. I will probably purchase other books by this author, like the wild animal book.

LOVE this beautiful book!

The projects in this book are STUNNING! They're so cleverly designed - I'm thoroughly impressed. I love how there are diagrams and written instructions for each animal. If you're in the US, note that the crochet terms are UK. (That's perfectly okay, IMO, because the UK has masterful crochet designers and it's well-worth the 2-seconds to learn to replace dc for sc, and tr for dc.) :)

About the Author
Robert Silverberg is the winner of five Hugo and five Nebula awards for his novels and short fiction. His work began appearing during the 1950s; he has received high acclaim for, among many others, such novels as Lord Valentine's Castle (the first in the Majipoor series), Tower of Glass, Dying Inside, and Nightwings.

No Dunk and Egg

This page lies. This book, the Shadows, Gods and Demons "volume", does not contain the Dunk & Egg story by GRRM. Don't be misled like I was. If you are looking for that story, you need to get the Dragon, Sword and King "volume".

Does not contain George Martin's "The Sworn Sword"

Posting this review as a warning. I bought this as a gift for my wife - was hoping to pick up all three chapters of the ASOIAF prequels for her for Christmas. Turns out this edition ("Shadows, Gods, and Demons") is an abridged edition which does not contain his story. Amazon's description of the item contains a statement that the inside flap of the book indicates the George Martin story will be included, but the paperback version does not contain this story. Best of luck and happy shopping!

Love these authors' worlds? Get another peek here.

This series, edited by Robert Silverberg, invited authors of best-beloved SF/F books to write a novella set somewhere in their fictional universe.

How well each novella works for you depends on how well you know-and-love that universe; if you never read Silverberg's series set in Majipoor or if (as for me) that story was enjoyable but not OhWowOhWow, the novella set in that world may be only "okay." If you adored an author's world, however, this is another visit to a favorite country, and just one of these stories could be worth the price of the book.

For me, that was the first tale in the book: Robin Hobb's novella about how the Rain Wilds were settled, set long before the events of the Liveship Traders. This is not an extra bit of dialog scraped off the cutting room floor... it's a whole other examination of Hobb's marvelous world, adding new dimension, characters, history. And it's absolutely wonderful.

I also enjoyed another story from Neil Gaiman's "American Gods" universe -- in which Shadow finds he's made an uncomfortable bargain -- and Anne McCaffrey's examination of what happens when someone (in this case Moreta) is lost "between"... but they were four-stars to me, not five. On the other hand, if I was totally into those worlds, I could easily imagine giving them five-stars. It's that kind of collection.

I haven't made it through the other tales here, yet: one each from Majipoor by Robert Silverberg, from Otherland by Tad Williams, and from Riftwar by Raymond E. Feist. I'm not in a hurry to do so, since I either haven't read those series or it's so long ago that I no longer have the passion for 'em (Majipoor was good, but there are other old Silverberg stories I loved better; I'm aware that such an opinion is in the minority).

However, I'm also not afraid to tackle the novellas, either, since Silverberg writes excellent "Cliff's Notes" before each contribution, summarizing the books in each series; if your memory of Pern is dusty, Silverberg's intro will remind you of the details to bring it all back. And if you read only part of the series (as I did with Majipoor) it's kind of fun to get a sense of what happened after you wandered away.

I really enjoyed this set of novellas. If you're enthusiastic about even one of these worlds, it's worth the price.

I feel like I’ve witnessed a beautiful wedding where the atmosphere is just right, the visuals are perfect, and the bride and groom are perfect for one another. Jeremy R. Treat (PhD, Wheaton College) is a pastor at Reality L.A. in Hollywood, California and an adjunct professor at Biola University in La Mirada, California. Before earning his Ph.D in systematic theology from Wheaton College, Jeremy was a pastor for seven years in the Seattle area and earned degrees from Seattle Pacific University, Fuller Theological Seminary, and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

integrates atonement and kingdom by a comprehensive biblical and systematic treatment

In both the church and the academy, there has been an unfortunate separation of the kingdom and the cross. I’ve experienced church and parachurch settings where either kingdom or atonement was emphasized, to the near-exclusion of the other; and in both contexts I have an ache for what is missing. The same dichotomization characterizes theological tomes – works that treat the kingdom hardly ever mention the atonement, and works that deal with atonement hardly mention the kingdom of God. Both kingdom and atonement are significant motifs in Scripture, and focusing on either while discounting/ neglecting the other can have devastating impacts on both one’s theology and ministry/church life.

In The Crucified King: Atonement and Kingdom in Biblical and Systematic Theology, Jeremy Treat provides an in-depth study of the biblical and theological relationship between the kingdom of God and the atoning death of Christ on the cross. “[T]he answer lies ultimately in Jesus, the crucified king, as properly understood within the story and logic of redemption” (25). Here “the story” of redemption is biblical theology and “the logic” of redemption is systematic theology. Because the cross-kingdom divide has much to do with the divide between biblical and systematic theology (with the former emphasizing the kingdom of God whilst largely neglecting the doctrine of atonement and the latter focusing on the doctrine of atonement whilst paying little attention to the theme of the kingdom of God), a holistic, integrative treatment of the themes of kingdom and atonement “will bridge this gap between biblical studies and systematic theology, incorporating insights from both disciplines for both doctrines” (27).

Part 1 addresses atonement and kingdom from the perspective of biblical theology, tracing the relationship between these two motifs as it unfolds in the storyline of Scripture. The main thesis of this section is that “the kingdom of God is established on earth by the atoning death of Christ on the cross” (139). Part 2 moves on to look at the relationship between atonement and kingdom from the perspective of systematic theology. “At the most basic level, the kingdom and the cross are held together by the Christ. Therefore, the doctrines of Christology, atonement, and kingdom must each be properly understood, especially in relation to one another 149. Part 2 deals with each of these doctrines in turn.

The Crucified King is a revision of Treat’s Ph.D. dissertation at Wheaton under Kevin Vanhoozer. It is moderately academic but accessible to interested laymen, especially those who have done some prior reading in biblical and systematic theology. Greek and Hebrew words are not transliterated, but they don’t appear frequently and do not present a significant hindrance to one without proficiency in biblical languages.

This is a significant book because of the comprehensive, detailed way in which Treat integrates the biblical motifs of kingdom and atonement. While his thesis is not new, no one has worked it out in this much detail. And certainly, no one to my knowledge has done so by integrating the disciplines of biblical and systematic theology, so frequently torn asunder – this also makes The Crucified King a landmark and unique work. This book will convince the reader of the importance of holding together both penal substitution and Christus Victor, both the doctrine of atonement and the kingdom of God. In both cases, focusing on one and neglecting the other results in a truncated gospel. The Crucified King also provides a robust explanation of how kingdom and atonement relate from the unfolding revelation of Scripture as well as church history and contemporary theology.

Any with interest in kingdom, atonement, biblical theology, and/or systematic theology would enjoy this book. But those who bemoan the dichotomization of kingdom and atonement and/or biblical and systematic theology and long to see them integrated as they should be would especially enjoy and appreciate this book. In The Crucified King, Jeremy Treat has not only provided a robust study of kingdom and atonement, but also a model of integrating biblical and systematic theology that should be employed more in theological studies.

In The Crucified King: Atonement and Kingdom in Biblical and Systematic Theology Jeremy Treat attempts to show the continuity of the kingdom of God and the cross through Biblical and Systematic Theology. Michael Horton states in the Foreword, "From the beginning of his ministry, Jesus saw himself as the bringer of the end-time kingdom, with the cross as his destiny. His main message was the kingdom and his main mission was to go to Golgotha." Yet, as Treat discusses in this volume, much scholarship has set these two ideas, Kingdom and Cross, against each other as an either/or argument rather than, as Treat argues, Kingdom through Atonement. With this tension in mind The Crucified King answers the question "what is the biblical and theological relationship between the coming of the kingdom of God and the atoning death of Christ on the cross?"

Treat is helpful in showing the reader how this division of Kingdom and Atonement has come about over the course biblical and systematic studies. Treat focuses in on six reasons why the kingdom and the cross have been often times set against each other in theological studies instead of integrated together. Here are a few that were quite helpful in understanding the tension and need for this book: "First...the wedge driven between kingdom and cross is largely the result of reactionary debates between those who emphasize the kingdom and those who focus on the cross." These types of reactionary divides can be seen in many places in theology, where one group will ignore or deny a teaching of Scripture and another group will come along and over correct and in over-correcting deny a clear teaching as well. "Second, the fragmentation of Scripture that has occurred since the Enlightenment has contributed greatly to the severance of kingdom and cross. If the Bible is not a unified whole, then there is no need to integrate the seemingly incompatible ideas that God reigns and the Son of God dies." Understanding the Bible as a progressive revelation of what God is doing in the world in and through Christ is necessary for correct Biblical interpretation. If not, as Treat says, we will just divide the Bible up into as many parts as we need to until we remove and tension or difficulty. "Third, the kingdom-cross divide is wide and by the "ugly ditch" between biblical studies and systematic theology." Often times Biblical and Systematic Theology are set against each other, rather than two methods that can complement each other. These underlying issues show the necessity of a book like this to bring together Atonement/Kingdom and Biblical/Systematic Theology.

The Crucified King is this divided into two sections: 1) A biblical theological look at kingdom and cross and 2) a systematic theology study. Treat does an excellent job showing how kingdom and cross our interconnected and scripture and not isolated competing ideas. In the first section Treat gives a great overview of the Bible's teaching on kingdom and cross, like any biblical theology should do, but then focuses in on some key passages that really bring clarity. Treat's focusing in on Isaiah and Mark are excellent in their content and contribution to further understanding how kingdom and cross relate. The idea of the suffering servant being the messianic King is expounded upon from Isaiah, and the idea of the King being the one who is crucified is looked at in detail from Mark. Treat's scholarship and knowledge is on display in these sections and is quite helpful.

In his systematic theology study Treat offers great insight into how past debates can shape our theology. His brief look at how reformed theology has sometimes over corrected when faced with the wrong focus of liberal theology really helps the reader to see that we must be careful in our Bible study. We must recognize that we all have presuppositions, and it is far easier to over correct against one error, then it is to walk the line that the Bible takes us on, often times grasping two truths that may be on the surface seem incompatible but come together perfectly in God's mind. An example of this is Christus Victor versus Penal Substitution. Instead of setting these at odds against each other, Treat proposes a way forward: Christus Victor through Penal Substitution. That is, Christ is victorious and triumphs by way of penal substitutionary atonement on the cross.

I was tremendously blessed by The Crucified King. Treat has compiled a wealth of knowledge and study into a readable volume that will surely bless those who read it.
