I loved this story, so much. It was engaging and beautiful, and I couldn’t put it down.

The story begins in Buckinghamshire in 1961. Dominic Blake, explorer and all-round charmer, meets Rosamund Bailey, a journalist with a passion for equal rights and fighting for the truth. The two clash but are very much drawn to one another at the same time. As love grows and their future lays before them, Dominic has one last expedition to go on before him and Rosamund become husband and wife.

Fast forward fifty-three years and we are introduced to Abby Gordon; museum archivist on a search for photographs to display at the ‘Great British Explorers’ exhibition at the Royal Cartography Institute. Abby comes across a photograph that instantly grabs her attention – a man and woman embracing with ‘goodbye’ etched in their expressions. The faded image captures Abby’s heart, and whilst trying to find a way to deal with her own heartache, ploughs herself into finding out what she can about the couple in the photograph. What she doesn’t expect is the depth of the story and the secrets that come to light as she delves further into the past trying to uncover what really happened to the couple, and if possible, to track them down.

Abby’s story unfolds throughout the book. When we first meet her she’s reeling from the discovery of finding out her husband Nick had a one night stand with his client. After seeing a message ping up on his phone and then confronting him about it, his honesty and admission of what he did shatters her world. Not able to forgive Nick, Abby sets about focusing on her job and in particular, the intriguing photograph that is given the title ‘The Last Kiss Goodbye.’

As the story moves forward Abby learns more about herself as well as the events leading up to Nick’s night of regret, and we begin to see things in a very different light. That’s all I’ll say on that subject as I don’t want to give anything away!
There are several characters who aren’t all they seem (I won’t say who, or go into any details for fear of spoiling the story) but they all unravel along the way and we understand why they have made certain decisions, why they’ve said what they’ve said, and why they have done the things that have ultimately changed the course of their lives and of those lives around them. I found that my first impressions of some of the characters were far out from what I later discovered about them.

I felt myself connecting with the characters of Rosamund and Abby. I felt their separate heartaches, and at times had a lump in my throat and burning behind the eyes as each of their stories unfolded. I empathised with them so much and rooted for them and their individual quests in life.

This isn’t just a romance novel as I first mistook it to be. It’s so much better than that. There are several other themes running through the story: espionage, light humour, suspense, betrayal, tragedy, drama, and not necessarily all in that order.

I’m not usually a fan of books that jump back and forth between past and present, but this book was very different. The stories were captivating, and with the book so well written, I just became more and more engrossed in the stories of the past and the present as they unravelled and eventually linked up.

I loved this story, so much. It was engaging and beautiful, and I couldn’t put it down. I found writing this review difficult because I didn’t want to give away any of the book’s secrets (and there are many) and spoil what happens along the way. All I can do is highly recommend that you read it. You won’t be disappointed – if anything, you’ll probably be surprised.

Really good story that you can get totally lost in

This is an extremely romantic read, one that you can curl up with a box of chocolates on the sofa and just get totally immersed in.

When archivist Abby Gordon stumbles upon a long lost photograph of a young man saying goodbye to his loved one before heading off into the Amazon jungle on an expedition, she is immediately drawn to it and determines to find out more about the couple in the photograph and their story. Told in dual time, the story weaves its way from 1961 and the story of Rosamund and Dominic to the present day as we watch Abby uncover their story, amidst the wreckage of her own broken marriage and problematic career.

I particularly loved the parts of the story set in 1961. Rosamund and Dominic are an extremely charismatic couple in a story that is very much “sweep you off your feet” stuff. She is a working class girl with strong left wing beliefs whereas Dominic is full of charm, a playboy who mixes with the crème de la crème. A case of opposites attract, but can they make it all work out in the long term and what happened after that photo was taiken?

From mingling in the salons of the echelons of London society to motoring down to Monte Carlo for the Grand Prix, it is pure escapism in a story that twists and turns and slowly reveals all its secrets. It is definitely not a predictable read. On the other hand, I didn’t really like Abby that much and was quite relieved every time we went back in time to 1961 and away from her. She is incredibly stubborn and very quick to take offence and judge people, but mainly she says and does things that are just incredibly stupid. In some ways she is quite “dated” and I didn’t really feel like I was reading about a young woman in the 21st century. She could quite easily have slotted into the 1961 part of the story without sticking out like a sore thumb.

I used to read a lot of books of this genre but over the years have found myself moving away from them, wanting something a bit meatier, a bit darker. I have to say though, that if they were all as good as this, then I would definitely read more. If you like a good romantic read stuffed full of secrets and drama that you can get totally lost in then this is definitely a must. Many thanks to the publisher via Netgalley for the review copy.

The Last Kiss Goodbye is a lovely story that I easily lost myself into.

Abby is a great character and through her work in the museum and the discovery of an old photograph, the reader is transported backwards and forwards to the past and present day.

I very much enjoyed being taken back to the 1960's and learning more about the man in the photograph and was as intrigued as Abby at his disappearance.

Abby is a lovely character who throws herself into her work to try and take her mind off her personal life. She is surrounded by good friends, though tracking down information to do with the photograph has her putting all her time and effort into the mission and leaving little time for anything else.

The whole story is steeped in mystery and intrigue. It is very much a story of true love and how it never dies.

Will certainly be reading more books by the author.

There are lots of interesting stories about the plays, TV shows and movies she did, with lots of names of her fellow actors and how she felt about them. While the cover of the book shows The Facts Of Life: The Complete Series cast, only a small part of the book is about that show, because only a small part of her life was spent as Mrs. Garrett. (Not that people don't still see her as Mrs. Garrett, and get all excited when they do see her! :) Ms. Rae has been on television for over 60 years.

Along with countless stories about her acting career, she also is not shy about talking about her personal life, including dealing with a drinking problem; dealing with a husband who made a startling confession one night; and dealing with her oldest son's autism, during a time period when the majority of people had never even heard the word "autistic". The actress tells how she was so relieved and happy when a specialist finally diagnosed her son as autistic, because she thought he said her son was different because he was "artistic". The doctor had to write the word down on a piece of paper to help her understand what he was saying. What he was saying broke her heart, too, but Ms. Rae is not one to succumb to self-pity or stupor. Well, yes, she did drink a lot during many years of her life, but she overcame her drinking problem with the help of AA. Charlotte Rae has always overcome adversity one way or another. She's dedicated, she's happy, she's positive, she's thankful.

Charlotte Rae is the personification of "lovable." Her book is both heartbreaking and inspiring and a must read for anyone interested in the human race. It has become one of my literary treasures.

Throrough, but not complete

This is the best character record-keeper I've found so far, apart from the personalized, made-at-home variety. Of course, if you have the time to type up your very own complete and thorough character sheet, you wouldn't be looking to buy one on-line, right?
Of the kind that require money to change hands, this is the best. You can keep track of your characters progress by levels, very handy for those times when you drop a level, there's a section for equipment, spells, feats, abilities, skill, all nicely laid out so that you can not only write in the bare facts but have rooms for things like spell descriptions, location of items and the like. The sections for cohorts, familiars, mounts, followers, contacts and places you've visited are also handy, enabling you to flesh out your character's world all within the tidy pages of one little volume.
My qualms with this item are few, but here they are. First of all, there's no section for turning undead. It seems a minor exclusions, but it would've been a fairly slim box to include and would have been indispensable for the divine spellcaster. Likewise, arcane spellcasters can write out just about everything for their character except the saving throw type for their spells. It's nice to be able to have the spell name, level, description and saving throw DC all in one neat row, but unless you've memorized if a Will save negates, or a Fortitude save halves, you're still going to have to look up to spell, so no time is gained.
Still, I've used four of these so far and definitely plan on using more. A wise and useful investment.

Great for going beyond the 2 page standard sheet

I absolutely love this item. Yes, you can print out a D&D character sheet for free online, or copy the one from the book, but if you really want to develop your character, this is the way to go.
The format is easy to read, and you have plenty of space to fit all your feats, languages, and especially items, separated into magical and non-magical. Ample areas to insert stats for familiars/cohorts/paladin warhorse etc. are also nice. There is also an area to log highlights of your adventures, and to add contacts your character has made - very handy for remembering all the names of people you've come across.
To expedite looking up stats for the character, I recommend removing the cover (easy to do, it's just stapled on) and putting it into a clear report cover (which you can get cheap from any office supply store). You can then easily stick post-it notes to the plastic for current hps, treasure gained, notes, etc.
This product has been updated to v3.5 compatibility, though I haven't found it on Amazon.com.

I love this book that instead of studying

I love this book that instead of studying, been reading the series and yet I'm still in the first quarter of the Series 4. I can't wait to find out who the stalker is and I looked at the review someone might have said it. I love Mercy Amare's book. There are quite few spelling errors but it doesn't matter to me. The story is just so addicting that I hold my breathe and excited to go to the next book and see what happens.

Rollercoaster Ride of a story

I am so in love with this series. With every book, it just gets better and better. I am thoroughly enjoying everything in this series. This book alone was just so exciting, so fast paced, so much of everything. Between the romance the drama, the suspense it just has it all. I am in love with this author.
Mercy Amare is just a fabulous writer. I have read alot of her books. I just fall in love with each of them.
I still have several guesses on who I think the stalker is. But the ending was just WOW! Did that really just happen. This was just an amazing ending to this particular book. I cannot wait to pick up the last book to see how everything will turn out.
This is a series that is easily devoured in a week or less. I just cannot get enough of it. Kihanna is just a great character. I am really enjoying Brian, At first I wasn't sure about him. But he has slowly grown on me. Ty is just being ridiculous. I am just rooting for Brian and Kihanna but with this series you never know what is going to happen. This is an emotional rollercoaster ride. It draws you in from the beginning and gets better and better with each book.
