This bundle + Official Guide is all you neeed

The 6th edition has better structure in quant and substantial improvements in Verbal. See my comparison vs. 5th edition below.
If you are just starting out with GMAT prep - get this bundle; it's a good deal for the Manhattan GMAT Guides (separately they cost close to $150). These books don't emphasize tricks or easy ways to 700+ score, instead they methodically cover areas tested, and should be pretty much all you will need (besides the Official Guides - see below for links). If this is above your budget or you are in a rush, then would recommend you pick the best of the pack:
- The GMAT Roadmap Great collection of wisdom (see my review of this book)
- Number Properties Guide (condensed overview of Arithmetic and strategies for saving time/solving questions more effectively)
- Word Propblems Guide (includes some of the hardest topics - probability, combinations, and statistics)
- Sentence Correction (the best book out there on SC)
- Critical Reasoning (only second to PowerScore CR but by a slim margin)
- Reading Comprehension - a significantly revised book (there are no other dedicated RC books on market really)
Between these 5 books you should have 80-90% of the GMAT covered and the rest could be picked up from the remaining books and practice with the Official Guides. You can throw in a Kaplan Premier as well - a good intro to GMAT book with 6 free GMAT Tets. It is a good starter book to get your feet wet, but definitely not a must.

To make the most use out of the MGMAT guides, you will need the Official Guide 20015 and also OG Verbal 2nd and OG Quant 2nd editions are recommended. The guides refer to these 3 books for additional practice questions. If you own previous versions of the Official Guide books, you can use those too with a translation table available from MGMAT's website.
*** Each book comes with access to 6 online gmat tests and additional question banks. Don't spend money on these as they are pricey ($40 for 6 tests on the MGMAT website).

Also, if you are new to the GMAT, download 2 official practice tests from GMAC and take one of them before you start prepping to get your level - very helpful to track your progress along the way but don't waste these tests - they use real retired gmat questions and though it is possible to recycle them (there are close to 900 questions in the banks), would recommend you use something less valuable for your practice such as MGMAT tests included with these books).

One more thing, don't rush into questions and tests - you will only hurt your self confidence, instead methodically cover each math and verbal topic and only after you are done with each of the sections move on to take the tests (take math only after you are done with math and verbal only after done with verbal). Final word of advice - the main mistake (esp in verbal) is not following strategies. Whichever books or strategies you use (they are all pretty similar between MGMAT, PowerScore, and Kaplan) - follow them EXACTLY. These people are getting big bucks to develop methods to improve score and maximize performance - don't try to be smarter and change things around. Unless you are scoring 750+, I would follow each step of the strategy to the "T". If the book says to read the CR question twice, then that's what you do even though it may seem that it is faster to read it once - trust me, there is a reason why you read it twice. If you want to get 700+ and not worry about the GMAT, stick to the strategies and keep creativity low.

~~~ Comparison of the 5th edition vs 6th edition. ~~~
I have gone through all of the books and here is how it looks:
Overall, all books have undergone some degree of updating; not just slapping a new cover as some providers do, so you will be better of buying the 6th if you are deciding. If you own the 5th edition already, I would recommend getting only the IR and RC books, however as they have undergone the most transformation. The rest is organized better (more logical); it will help those who are short on time; the pages now also have more graphs, charts, and cheat sheets at the end (a number of books added this feature including Geometry and CR).
IR - substantial changes and improvements - the book needed them, and is now split by question type and organized a lot better
Quant - mostly minor updates (less than 10% new content)
RC - Major update
SC - Restructure with the main difference is that the idiom section is cut down and rewrite of most chapters (more than 20% of content updated)
CR - Improvements in text-heavy areas that put people to sleep before. Cheat sheets added after each chapter. I do like pre-thinking, however, in CR, so I still feel that CR book can be improved.

THESE REALLY HELP!

I bought these books to prepare for the GMAT - I haven't taken a standardized test in years! My first practice test put me at a 650 so I know I had work to do. I poured over these books and studied four hours a night after work and every weekend for two months. The combination of these books, the GMAT Original Guide Bundle (buy those for practice problems), and hours of studying produced a 760 GMAT score!!! Highly recommend for time-saving tricks, comprehensive review materials and common-sense explanations.

I hate standardized tests but these helped me get a 640

Great set of guides. I hate standardized tests but I decided to give self studying a try. My first practice test before I started studying I got a 490. I went through all of these books and the OG guide in 3-4 months. After that I was scoring around 580s on practice tests. I took my official test in October 2015 and got a 640. Buy these along with a solid study plan and it can be a great alternative to hiring an expensive tutor.

Wang Shaoqiang is a professor at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, where he is dean of the design, visualization and animation department. He is the founder of Sandu Publishing, whose titles focus on international design, architecture, branding, communication, trends and culture, and the editor of Design 360° magazine and Asia-Pacific Design. He has been invited to lecture at numerous universities, design academies and organizations, and he has also been a jury member for China’s most prestigious design and illustration awards.

"Remember laughter. You'll need it ..."

If you like The Last Unicorn and Alice in Wonderland, you’ll probably like James Thurber’s fairy tales. His work is a fun mix of the wordplay of Lewis Carroll and the beautiful, sometimes half-poetic prose of Peter S. Beagle, plus the gentle satire that can be found in both of those. The 13 Clocks is light enough to read in a day or two, but also unique enough to stick with you for a lot longer than that.

It seems like a typical fairy-tale conundrum: a wicked Duke is trying to prevent his niece, Princess Saralinda, from marrying, because he is always cold and her hand is the warmest in all the castle. He sets her suitors impossible tasks and kills them when they can’t complete them. But one day, a young minstrel named Xingu decides to try and thwart the Duke. With the help of the Golux, Xingu may be able to not only win the hand of the Princess Saralinda, but get the 13 stopped clocks in the Duke’s castle up and running as well.

The 13 Clocks looks a lot like a kids’ book, what with its slim girth, large print, and color illustrations. A kid would definitely enjoy it, but adults shouldn’t ignore it, either. The writing is clever and fun enough, as Neil Gaiman says in his introduction to the book, that you’ll look for any excuse to read it aloud. Take this quote from the Golux: “I resemble only half the things I say I don’t. The other half resemble me.” Or this description of an ancient hag’s abode: “It was cold on Hagga’s hill, and fresh with furrows where the dragging points of stars had plowed the fields … There was a smell, the Golux thought, a little like Forever in the air, but mixed with something faint and less enduring, possibly the fragrance of a flower.” Now, what grown-up wouldn’t be a child again to live on words like that?

That’s why The 13 Clocks works as well as it does. It may have some predictable qualities – well-used plot, stock heroes and villains (except the Golux, who will live on forever in my heart) – but the language is superb, and the pictures aren’t bad, either. (Thurber, known for his endearingly less-than-stellar drawing skills, didn’t illustrate this book; he had Marc Simont do it because his eyes were getting bad.) It’s a great gift for anyone who loves words, even if that person is yourself.

Wonderful, wordy, poetic -- begs to be read aloud!

"Once upon a time, in a gloomy castle on a lonely hill, where there were thirteen clocks that wouldn't go, there lived a cold, aggressive Duke, and his neice, the Princess Saralinda."

Well. that first line has just about everything you need to start off a fairy tale, doesn't it? And it only gets better from there.

The New York Review has just reissued Thurber's classic, paired with the illustrations by Marc Simont, with a new introduction by Neil Gaiman.
The 13 Clocks is as full of fairy tale as you can get, with a Princess, the evil Duke, and, of course, a Prince. But there's also a Golux, who seems wise, but who sometimes makes things up and is extremely forgetful, the 13 clocks, an old woman who cries jewels, and the Todal ("The Todal looks like a blop of glup. , , , It makes a sound like rabbits screaming, and smells of old, unopened rooms.")

The story, although it's exciting and scary and thrilling, isn't even the best part. No the best part, as far as I'm concerned is the words that make up the story itself and the poetical way Thurber weaves them together. It's not really poetry, yet, at the same time, it is. This story, like poems, uses those glittery, evocative, slippery wonderful words -- like "brambles and thorns and "bonged the gongs of a throng of frogs, all green and vivid on their lily pads." Words like "gleep" and "made of lip" and "impudence" and "savage clash of swords." -- that together imbue the tale with feeling and delight.

Timeless Perfection For Young And Old

The Thirteen Clocks, by James Thurber, is a perfect book. The only way it could be better would be by being longer. The story is classic in its simplicity, so elemental that anyone can easily find a way inside. The big setting - a castle - the big players - a Prince, Princess, and wicked Duke (very wicked) - the big themes - courage, redemption, selfless sacrifice, and just a whiff of magic. Best of all, the big problem - time is frozen. Our enterprising Prince must do the impossible to win the hand of Princess Saralinda. This is road-tested material but Thurber breathes new life into it, making it fresh and irresistible. The musicality of his language is delightful, there is so much joy and play in the words, they giggle and dance like water gliding over stones in a stream. His rogue's gallery of secondary characters is just too good; each is slightly more improbable and splendidly cracked than the last. Most of all, this story ends exactly as it should, the resolution is not forced, it's simply correct. The Thirteen Clocks is a slice of heaven that can be enjoyed by anyone able to read. Thurber, it turns out, really was as good as he claimed. This lasting jewel proves it.

The Lawudo Lama presents two life stories along with an extended introduction laying out their social and cultural context. The first Lawudo Lama portrayed, Lama Kunzang Yeshe (1864-1946), was a yogi of the Nyingma lineage who spent much of his life meditating in a cave near Lawudo, and his life is reconstructed through meticulous research of written and oral histories. The second story is of Kunzang Yeshe's reincarnation, a monk of the Gelug lineage known as Lama Zopa Rinpoche, whose story is given in a first-person narrative. Lama Zopa is well known in the West as the author of several books and as the Spritual Director of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT), which has more than 100 affiliate Buddhist centers worldwide. Lama Zopa Rinpoche travels and teaches extensively to large audiences and has thousands of students.

The Lawudo Lama will appeal to travelers to Nepal, to Buddhist practitioners, and to scholars trying to understand the culture of the region. It is well documented, and is accompanied by more than 125 color and black and white photos, drawings, lineage charts, and maps.

About the Author
Jamyang Wangmo (Helly Pelaez Bozzi, formerly Jampa Chokyi) was born in Spain in 1945 and trained in law. After spending time in India and Nepal, she decided to take ordination as a Buddhist nun in 1972. A watercolor artist as well, she has spent much of the past few decades doing retreats in Dharamsala, India, and in the Solo Khumbu region of Nepal.

Tenzin Gyatso, the Fourteenth Dalai Lama, is the spiritual leader of the Tibetan people. He frequently describes himself as a simple Buddhist monk. Born in northeastern Tibet in 1935, he was as a toddler recognized as the incarnation of the Thirteenth Dalai Lama and brought to Tibet's capital, Lhasa. In 1950, Mao Zedong's Communist forces made their first incursions into eastern Tibet, shortly after which the young Dalai Lama assumed the political leadership of his country. He passed his scholastic examinations with honors at the Great Prayer Festival in Lhasa in 1959, the same year Chinese forces occupied the city, forcing His Holiness to escape to India. There he set up the Tibetan government-in-exile in Dharamsala, working to secure the welfare of the more than 100,000 Tibetan exiles and prevent the destruction of Tibetan culture. In his capacity as a spiritual and political leader, he has traveled to more than sixty-two countries on six continents and met with presidents, popes, and leading scientists to foster dialogue and create a better world. In recognition of his tireless work for the nonviolent liberation of Tibet, the Dalai Lama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989. In 2012, he relinquished political authority in his exile government and turned it over to democratically elected representatives.

His Holiness frequently states that his life is guided by three major commitments: the promotion of basic human values or secular ethics in the interest of human happiness, the fostering of interreligious harmony, and securing the welfare of the Tibetan people, focusing on the survival of their identity, culture, and religion. As a superior scholar trained in the classical texts of the Nalanda tradition of Indian Buddhism, he is able to distill the central tenets of Buddhist philosophy in clear and inspiring language, his gift for pedagogy imbued with his infectious joy. Real Life can be kinda boring.

I was expecting a little more * mystery and magic* to it. given that it was about reincarnations. but given that it was also about *real Life8 I found it kind of a boring read.
